The next few months are usually the busiest of the year for franchise recruitment. September taps into the post-holiday itch that so many career-changers feel once summer is over, October brings the Franchise Show at the NEC, and the run-up to Christmas and the New Year tends to give anyone craving a fresh start a real sense of urgency.
The result is that most franchises will see a noticeable spike in new enquiries over the coming months, along with a wave of older leads quietly re-engaging.
That makes right now the ideal time to check that your recruitment systems are genuinely performing the way they need to. Before you get stuck into what will hopefully be your busiest stretch of the year, it’s worth making sure you can answer these five key questions, because the answers are what tell you where your time and budget are best spent:
1. Which lead sources are genuinely delivering?
Not simply which sources produce the most enquiries, but which ones produce the quality you need, and the most prospects who actually go on to become the right kind of franchisees. A source that floods your inbox but rarely converts is worth less than a quieter one which provides people actually worth speaking to.
2. Where in your process do you lose the most people?
Not every lead will convert, and you wouldn’t want them to. What matters is whether there’s a particular stage where engagement reliably drops away – before that first proper conversation, after it, or right at the point you thought someone was about to sign. Knowing where the leak is tells you where to focus your attention rather than spreading it thinly across the whole journey.
3. What content is actually earning engagement?
Tracking how people interact with your emails and online content shows you exactly which messaging lands and which doesn’t. Done well, it also reveals how timing affects response, and which channels work best at different stages of the journey and for different types of prospect.
4. How long does it really take a lead to become a franchisee?
Do you know your average lead-to-sale timeline, and how long your most recent franchisees actually took from first enquiry to signing? That context can help you make much better decisions about your marketing, judge the effectiveness of different lead sources, and understand how and why lead engagement fluctuates over different channels and time spans.
5. What does a single sale actually cost you?
The most recent bfa research points to a steadily rising cost of recruiting each new franchisee. Do you know what that figure is for your own network, and is it something you can measure with any confidence? Once you can, you’re in a position to adjust your budget, your channels and your offering to match, rather than working on instinct.
Once you have the answers, the real work begins
Knowing the numbers is useful. Having a recruitment system that acts on them is where the real value lies.
That’s the difference between having recruitment data and having a recruitment system that works. The busiest part of the year is a good time to generate more leads. It’s an even better time to make sure your process is designed to do something useful with every one of them.
If you’d like a fresh pair of eyes on your recruitment process, I’d be happy to talk through what your numbers are telling you, where the gaps might be, and what you could change before the next wave of enquiries arrives.
